Where most reverbs bury you in early-reflection graphs, decay-time sliders, and diffusion parameters, Pro-R 2 reframes the whole problem around a single Space knob that morphs smoothly from a tight vocal booth to a cathedral. That design choice is the plugin's defining strength: you dial in the feel of a room by ear, quickly, without ever thinking about a room-size number.

Its real party trick is the Decay Rate EQ. Instead of one global decay time, you draw a curve that makes low, mid, and high frequencies ring out for different lengths. That lets you keep a lush high-frequency shimmer while taming boomy low-end tails, or vice versa, all in one gesture. Paired with the six-band Post EQ, it gives you tonal control over the reverb that convolution units and vintage emulations simply can't match. The Room, Vintage, and Plate character options cover everything from natural spaces to classic hardware flavors, and version 2 adds full Dolby Atmos support up to 9.1.6 for immersive mixers.

The trade-offs are honest ones. At $199 it sits firmly in premium territory, and the value depends on how much reverb matters to your work. It is also algorithmic at heart; aside from impulse-response import, it won't replace a dedicated convolution reverb for capturing a specific real space. And while the interface is inviting, the deeper Decay Rate and Post EQ tools reward time spent learning them.

Against its alternatives, it plays a different game entirely. FabFilter Volcano 3 is a filter, while Output Movement and NI Halftime are rhythmic effects, so Pro-R 2 is the clear pick when you actually need world-class spatial reverb rather than modulation or texture. For anyone doing serious mixing who wants gorgeous, controllable ambience fast, it is close to essential.
