What sets it apart is workflow: the large, GPU-accelerated spectrum analyzer lets you see problem frequencies and drag bands into place faster than almost anything else on the market. Pro-Q 4's headline additions are spectral dynamics and EQ Sketch. EQ Sketch lets you draw a target curve in one gesture, and the new Gentle and Warm Character modes add subtle analog coloration for those who find clinical EQ too sterile.

The trade-off is price and scope. At $199 it is expensive for an equalizer, and Pro-Q 3 owners still pay an upgrade fee. The deeper dynamic and spectral features reward study, so beginners who only need to carve a little low end or add air will find most of the plugin sitting idle.

Against its listed alternatives, Pro-Q 4 is broader than any of them. soothe2 is a sharper dedicated resonance suppressor but is not a full EQ; Ozone 11 is a mastering suite where EQ is one module among many; Valhalla VintageVerb is a reverb and not a competitor at all.
