The Dubspot verdict

A narrow, superbly focused supersaw machine co-designed with A.G. Cook — fast and expressive for its one job, but deliberately shallow next to full-featured synths. First look based on published specs, not lab testing.

Best for Producers who make supersaw leads constantly and want them finished fast, in pop, hyperpop, trance and EDM.

Pros

  • Purpose-built for supersaws: two stacked-saw layers get you there instantly
  • 4-corner X/Y Morpher makes evolving, performable chord and detune changes easy
  • Star-shaped motion modulator adds animated pan, amp and pitch movement
  • Factory library built from A.G. Cook's own patches; sounds finished out of the box

Cons

  • Deliberately narrow — no wavetable, FM, granular or free modulation matrix
  • General-purpose synths you may already own can build the same sound
  • Single tier with no free player version

Field notes

Overview

SuperStarSaw (styled Super*Saw) is Native Instruments' first net-new software synth in years, released on July 16, 2026 and co-created with producer A.G. Cook. Where most synths make a supersaw as one of many possible sounds, SuperStarSaw is built around it: two independent stacked-saw layers, a 4-corner X/Y Morpher for interpolating between complete patch states, and a star-shaped motion modulator for animated movement.

The appeal is focus. A multimode filter, built-in chorus, delay and reverb, plus chord and scale quantisation, mean patches arrive in key and mixed. The factory library is drawn from A.G. Cook's own patches, leaning into euphoric leads, metallic dissonance and impossible glides. The trade-off is breadth: there is no wavetable, FM, granular or free modulation matrix, and a general-purpose synth you already own can build a similar sound. This is a first-look assessment based on Native Instruments' published specifications rather than hands-on lab testing. See our full SuperStarSaw article for the feature-by-feature breakdown and comparison.

FAQ

How much does SuperStarSaw cost?

SuperStarSaw is a single-tier purchase at $99 / EUR 99 / GBP 89 direct from Native Instruments, with no subscription or separate editions.

What formats does SuperStarSaw support?

SuperStarSaw runs as a VST3, AU and AAX plugin in 64-bit hosts on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows 10 or 11.

Is SuperStarSaw worth it if I already own Serum or Sylenth1?

Both can build a supersaw, so SuperStarSaw is about speed and A.G. Cook's ready-made palette rather than raw capability. If supersaws are core to your music, its focused workflow and Morpher justify the price; if not, your existing synth covers it.
