Field notes

Overview

Buzz Zone is Toybox's performance-focused synthesizer, built around two layerable engines. The Synth engine is a wavetable oscillator with a unison function for thick, harmonically rich timbres, and the Sample engine adds extra textures or attack transients over the top. The two stack together for complex, evolving sounds, inside a streamlined modern interface.

Version 3, released in October 2026, is a major free update for existing owners. It adds six sequencers with piano-roll editing, the modular Utility Strip for building your own MIDI and modulation setups, 16 oscillator modulation types, two envelope banks with crossfade, Snapshots that morph whole sounds, a global tuning library and more than 100 new presets. Buzz Zone runs as VST3, AU and standalone on macOS and Windows, and as a separate AUv3 app on iPad, for $48.
