Oddment ODD-1V is the plugin version of the ODD-1, the desktop granular synthesizer from Oddment Audio. It is a 1:1 port, not a companion, so the plugin carries the full engine, the 2 GB factory library and patch interchange with the hardware. Sounds you build in either one load in the other.
The engine is a granular instrument rather than a granular effect. Two polyphonic layers each hold a 60-second stereo buffer and read it with four independent playheads, and every grain is placed in the stereo field binaurally and passed through its own bandpass filter. Independent pitch and time let you freeze a sound and still play it. Two filters and two saturators per voice, two echoes per layer, a reverb and a deep modulation section finish the sound in one window.
ODD-1V suits sound designers who build texture, drones and evolving pads and want per-grain, spatial control. Compared with a granular effect like Portal, it asks more and gives more, closer in spirit to Dillon Bastan Iota II. It is 149 dollars in early access, free for ODD-1 hardware owners, and still gaining features. For the full breakdown, see the Oddment ODD-1V review.
