Sugar Bytes Graindad is a real-time granular effect. It records whatever you feed it and rebuilds that audio out of grains, so you can freeze a moment, stutter it, stretch it, pitch it or slice it. Recording can sync to the host clock, fire from a MIDI note, or trigger off transients in the signal, which lets Graindad react musically to real material rather than a fixed grid.
The grain engine plays up to 64 grains at once, shaped by twelve main controllers and by the Harvester modulation system, a visual panel that drives several parameters together. A full onboard rack of filters, three reverbs, delay, chorus and flanger means you can finish an entire texture inside the one plugin. Released September 3, 2026, at €99, with an AUv3 iPadOS version a day later.
Graindad suits sound designers and ambient, cinematic and experimental producers who build tracks from texture. It rewards depth: nearly every parameter can be randomized, and it is easy to turn a source into noise before you learn the controls. Compared with alternatives such as Portal or Aparillo, reach for Graindad when you want live, transient-aware granular processing you can perform and finish in one place.
