Phantomexposure Interphase Cartograph is a software recreation of the Casio VZ-1 and VZ-10M, the 1988 synths that ran interactive phase distortion (iPD). Released in September 2026 for around $7, it fills a real gap: the CZ line got the Arturia treatment years ago, but the stranger, more interactive VZ architecture had gone unrecreated in software until now.
Classic mode mirrors the original hardware with four lines, eight modules, the eight iPD waveforms, and eight-stage envelopes, and it imports original Casio VZ-1 SysEx banks. Extended mode opens the structure to six lines and twelve modules, adds morphable waveforms and longer envelopes, and introduces amplitude modulation and through-zero FM. Around the engine sit two LFOs, a 16-slot modulation matrix, six macros, an arpeggiator, microtuning, and a lockable randomizer. It runs as VST3 and standalone on Windows and signed Universal macOS.
Its nearest named competitor is Arturia CZ V, which recreates the earlier CZ series. For most producers this is a curiosity buy, but at $7 it is an easy one.
