IK Multimedia's Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II puts Sunset Sound's Studios 1, 2 and 3, plus chambers, iso booths, plates and a spring, into a standalone plug-in built on Volumetric Response Modeling. It launched in February 2026 as a deeper take on the original T-RackS Sunset Sound module. Right now it is $49.99 at Plugin Boutique and on IK's store (from $149.99), 66% off until 30 November 2026.
At a glance: three Sunset Sound live rooms with up to 27 source positions per studio, directional and omni source modes, dual reverb engines, 336 live-room stereo IRs, variable dampening in Studios 1 and 3, VST3/AU/AAX, macOS 10.15+ and Windows 10+. $49.99 until 30 Nov. A lot of Hollywood room for the money this Black Friday, especially next to UAD Capitol Studios at $249.
What is Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II?
Sunset Sound Recorders on Sunset Boulevard is the studio behind records from the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen and many others. Version II is a standalone plug-in that expands the older T-RackS Sunset Sound Studio Reverb with IK's VRM (Volumetric Response Modeling). Instead of one static impulse response per room, VRM keeps how the room reacts when you move the source: position, direction and acoustic setup all change the tone.
It is not only live rooms. You also get chambers, iso booths, EMT plates and an AKG spring, and you can run two independent reverb engines in parallel so a live room and a plate (or chamber and spring) sit on the same insert.
What's inside: rooms, engines and controls
Live rooms. Studios 1, 2 and 3 each offer up to 27 distinct source positions that IK captured acoustically rather than inventing in software. Move the source and the reverb follows the real space. Studios 1 and 3 add modelled variable dampening that mirrors Sunset Sound's adjustable absorption panels.
Source modes. Directional mode suits vocals and guitar cabs. Omnidirectional mode suits drums, pianos and ensembles.
Dual engines. Two reverb engines run in parallel. Combine live rooms with chambers, iso booths, plates or the spring, each with its own EQ, stereo control and routing.
Size control. Size scales the impulse responses from 0% to 200% while aiming to keep the original capture's tone and spatial behaviour, rather than acting as a simple decay knob.
Signal paths. Two preamp and signal-path options modelled on Sunset Sound gear: the API/DeMedio Sunset Sound Custom and a Class-A discrete Neve 8880-style path.
Library. 336 live-room stereo impulse responses sit under the positioning system.

Which to pick: if you want Sunset Sound's three rooms and a plate/spring/chamber toolkit for under $50 before 30 November, Version II is the clear buy. If you need Capitol's rooms and Decca tree specifically, see our UAD Capitol Studios first look — it is $249 with no launch cut. If you want a UA studio room on a budget before 10 November, Ocean Way Studios Deluxe at $99 is the UA value pick. For a plate alone, the UAD EMT 140 does a different job.
Who Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II is for
Buy it if you mix rock, pop, indie or anything that benefits from real Hollywood live rooms; if you want chambers, plates and a spring next to those rooms without stacking three plug-ins; or if $49.99 until 30 November is your studio-reverb budget this Black Friday.
Skip it if you specifically need Capitol Studios A/B or Ocean Way's rooms — those are different buildings with different mic lockers. Skip it too if you only want a long algorithmic hall or a modulation-heavy creative reverb; this is a captured-studio tool, not Valhalla or FabFilter Pro-R 2.
How much does Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II cost?
- $49.99 at Plugin Boutique from $149.99, 66% off until 30 November 2026.
- $49.99 from $149.99 on IK Multimedia's own store (excl. tax) for the same Black Friday window.
- €48 at Thomann (30-day best price shown as €147, about 67% off).
- Owners of the original T-RackS Sunset Sound Studio Reverb get a $50 / €50 discount at IK checkout when that upgrade path is offered.
- Best Service does not list Version II.
Our Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II plugin page tracks the current price.
Buy now or wait? $49.99 is already two-thirds off list, and the Plugin Boutique end date is 30 November. UA's Ocean Way $99 cut ends earlier, on 10 November, so if you are choosing between Sunset Sound II and Ocean Way, decide before that UA window closes.
FAQ
Is Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II the same as the T-RackS module?
No. Version II is a standalone plug-in with VRM positioning, dual engines, far more live-room IRs and an updated interface. It expands the earlier T-RackS Sunset Sound Studio Reverb rather than replacing every T-RackS install automatically.
Sunset Sound II vs UAD Capitol Studios — which should I buy?
Sunset Sound II is $49.99 until 30 November and covers three Sunset Sound rooms plus plates, chambers and a spring. Capitol Studios is $249 and models Capitol A and B with a mic locker, Decca tree and four Capitol chambers. Buy Sunset Sound II for price and Sunset's rooms; buy Capitol Studios when you need that building specifically.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 10.15 or newer (Apple silicon or Intel) and Windows 10 64-bit or newer, 8 GB RAM, about 1 GB of disk, OpenGL 2 graphics, and VST3, AU or AAX. Online authorisation is required.
Does it include plates and springs?
Yes. Alongside the three live rooms you get chambers, iso booths, EMT plates and an AKG spring, and you can run two of those engines together.
Verdict
Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II is the studio-room bargain of this Black Friday stretch: three captured Sunset Sound rooms, dual engines, plates, chambers and a spring for $49.99 until 30 November. It will not replace a Capitol- or Ocean Way-specific workflow if that is the sound you already decided on, and it is not a creative algorithmic hall. For producers who want real Hollywood live rooms without spending $249, this is the one to try before the sale ends.
