Phaseburn One is a software synthesizer built around an oscillator adapted from radio engineering: a phase-locked loop, rebuilt as a playable, sometimes unstable voice with TRACK, DAMP, and INFLUENCE controls and a PLL LAB visualization. It sits alongside three more oscillators, a Vector Phase Shaping engine, a MORPH oscillator with twelve waveform families, and a dedicated SUB, in a single four-oscillator voice.
Around the oscillators the synth adds a probability sequencer, where three timing grids share one bar and 152 slots carry chance values across 17 scales, and a patchbay whose nodes include the oscillators, filters, and effects, with feedback taps on the delay, chorus, and reverb. The effects lean toward sound design, including a delay with a frequency shifter in its loop and a granular Freezer.
The engine is written in Rust with 64-bit floating-point DSP and true stereo generated at the oscillators. Phaseburn One is in free public beta until October 15, 2026, after which it will cost €149 for a one-time perpetual license. It goes head to head with Phase Plant on modular sound design, trading Phase Plant's snapin ecosystem for a distinctive oscillator and a built-in probability sequencer.
