Field notes

Überblick

The Roland TR-1000 is Roland's flagship drum machine and the first in over 40 years with a true analog engine. It carries 16 analog tones based on TR-808 and TR-909 circuits, then adds 75 ACB tones, FM and PCM engines, and a full onboard sampler with 64 GB of storage.

The free v1.50 update, released in October 2026, broadens what it can do. A new Keyboard play mode and per-step NOTE parameter let you sequence tuned basslines and melodies, 50 FM instruments arrive from the TR-8S library, and four new effects join the Master FX section. A "Keep Kit EFX and EXT IN" setting keeps reverb, delay and external sound running through kit changes for seamless live sets.

At around £2,299 it is a serious investment, but it sits at the top of the TR line with a breadth few drum machines match. The full first look at the update is in our Roland TR-1000 v1.50 feature, and you can compare the category in our guide to the best drum machines of 2026.
