Ripple Viola is a phrase instrument from Osterhouse Sounds built on one technique: the two-note slur. Overlap two notes and it plays a recorded viola phrase that moves between them in a single bow stroke, time-stretched from 110 BPM to your project. Hold a chord and the overlapping pairs trigger a cascade of ripples that follows the harmony.
There are three articulations (Quarters, Eighths and Sixteenth Snap), 516 phrases and 152 release samples, recorded dry with three reverbs. Speed, Direction and Sync shape how the ripples trigger, release samples end each phrase naturally, and a MIDI clip browser gives you ideas to drag into the DAW.
It costs $59 at launch (regular $79) as VST3, AU and AAX, or $99 with Ripple Cello. Read our Ripple Viola first look for the comparison with Ripple Cello and who it suits.
