Il verdetto Dubspot

Squarp's take on the modular brain is a compact 6HP MIDI-to-CV/Gate interface whose engine-per-output design and generative tools turn one module into pitch, gates, envelopes, LFOs, and Euclidean rhythms across up to 64 outputs.

Ideale per Modular players who drive the rack from MIDI and want one clean, generative brain, especially existing Squarp Hapax or Hermod+ owners.

Pros

  • Any of up to 64 outputs can be any of 14 engine types, from pitch and gates to LFOs, envelopes, and Euclidean rhythms
  • Deep generative tools: up to 64 LFOs, 64 clocks, and 64 Euclidean generators, plus AHDSR envelopes
  • Full connectivity in 6HP: USB host and device, TRS MIDI in and out, and a dedicated DIN-style MIDI output
  • OLED screen and 8 recallable global presets, each with its own scale

Cons

  • CV and gate outputs live on the xp32 expander, so the real entry price is the 590-euro bundle
  • Not a standalone sequencer like the Hermod+ or Hapax
  • New product with firmware still maturing

Panoramica

Squarp Core is a 6HP Eurorack module that turns MIDI into control voltage and gate signals and layers generative engines on top. It is the translation and modulation hub between a computer, keyboards, or a Squarp sequencer and an analog or modular rig, and it extends the design language of the company's Pyramid, Hapax, and Hermod+ instruments into a focused utility.

Every output runs one of 14 engine types, from straightforward Pitch, Gate, Velocity, and CC conversion to generative LFO, Euclid, AHDSR, Slope, Motif, and Logic engines. With one or two xp32 expanders it drives 32 or 64 assignable outputs, and it can run dozens of LFOs, clocks, and Euclidean generators at once. Connectivity covers USB host and device, TRS MIDI in and out, and a dedicated DIN-style MIDI output, with an OLED screen and eight recallable presets.

Core sells for 190 euros direct from Squarp, with a Core and xp32 bundle at 590 euros. Because the physical output jacks live on the xp32, the bundle is the realistic entry point for most buyers. FAQ

Do I need an xp32 to use Squarp Core?

Yes, for CV and gate output. Core is the brain that handles MIDI, routing, engines, and the screen, while the physical output jacks live on the xp32 expander. One xp32 gives 32 outputs and two give 64, which is why Squarp sells a Core and xp32 bundle at 590 euros.

How many CV outputs does Squarp Core have?

Up to 64, across two xp32 expanders at 32 outputs each. Every output is assignable to any of the 14 engine types, so you can mix pitch, gates, envelopes, LFOs, Euclidean rhythms, clock, and logic however a patch needs.

Is Squarp Core a sequencer?

Not a full standalone sequencer like the Hermod+ or Hapax. Core is a MIDI-to-CV/Gate interface with generative and modulation engines, designed to translate and shape MIDI from a DAW, keyboard, or sequencer into control voltage.
