SuperStarSaw (styled Super*Saw) is Native Instruments' first net-new software synth in years, released on July 16, 2026 and co-created with producer A.G. Cook. Where most synths make a supersaw as one of many possible sounds, SuperStarSaw is built around it: two independent stacked-saw layers, a 4-corner X/Y Morpher for interpolating between complete patch states, and a star-shaped motion modulator for animated movement.
The appeal is focus. A multimode filter, built-in chorus, delay and reverb, plus chord and scale quantisation, mean patches arrive in key and mixed. The factory library is drawn from A.G. Cook's own patches, leaning into euphoric leads, metallic dissonance and impossible glides. The trade-off is breadth: there is no wavetable, FM, granular or free modulation matrix, and a general-purpose synth you already own can build a similar sound. This is a first-look assessment based on Native Instruments' published specifications rather than hands-on lab testing.
