Il verdetto Dubspot

A fast, chaos-first sampler that turns a folder of audio into playable one-shots and full kits. Great for happy accidents, less so for surgical control.

Ideale per: Beat-makers, lo-fi and experimental producers, and sound designers who want fast, unexpected chops, kits, and textures.

Pros

  • CHOP ALL fills a 16-cell grid from random files in one gesture
  • Deep for the price: 14 synthesis engines, a drum machine, and glitch FX
  • 12-bit randomizers make every module a fast idea generator
  • Built-in recording and Magazine mode batch out variations quickly

Cons

  • Chance-first design is not built for precise, repeatable programming
  • No AAX, so Pro Tools users are left out
  • Deep feature set has a learning curve across its many modules

Panoramica

Chopgrid is Broekn Labs' chance-based sampler, and its defining idea is chaos. Hit CHOP ALL and it reads a folder of audio, grabs 16 different files, picks 16 random start points, and fills a 16-cell grid with one-shots. Every module carries a 12-bit randomizer with 4,096 combinations, so the whole plugin is built to generate ideas you would never have programmed on purpose. Lock the cells you like and keep rolling the rest.

It is deeper than a slicer. Four sound modules cover synthesis: SB301 is an analog-style monosynth with a four-pole ladder filter, PIVOT packs 14 engines spanning FM, granular, and physical modelling, CHIP delivers lo-fi console-style oscillators, and SEQ adds six sequencer types across eleven scales with MIDI-file playback. On the rhythm side, DROM is an 8-part drum machine with over 4,500 recorded one-shots, MASH builds one-shots by blending two sources, and UTIL bundles EQ, filter, compression, and a VCA.

The effects lean into destruction and motion: bit crushing (CRUSH), six distortion models (DIRT), stutters and signal collapse (FUXT), tape delay (DLYA), dark reverb (WERB), a sequenced filter bank (FILT), and a gating sequencer (GATA). Recording is built in too, with tape capture (KASET), loop and 8-variation Magazine recording (LOOP), and full-stem playback (STEM).

The trade-offs are honest. Chopgrid is chance-first, so it is not the tool for precise, repeatable multisample control the way XLN Audio XO organizes sounds by character, and it lacks XO's AAX support, leaving Pro Tools users out. With this many modules, there is a learning curve. But for producers who fill drum racks and sampler banks from folders and thrive on happy accidents, few plugins move this fast at this price.

At $29 intro (regular $49), it is inexpensive for what it packs in. Choose it for surprise, speed, and glitch. Look to XO for curated organization or Output Portal for granular texture. Producers can grab other samplers and sound-design tools through Plugin Boutique.
