HOLODRIFT is Blinksonic's granular and spectral synth. Eight slots each run a complete granular engine on a sample, a loop slice, a recording or live input, and the JOURNEY glides from slot to slot so one material melts into the next. You can drive it by hand on an XY pad, by LFO, or note by note. Everything the sampler plays goes into a real-time spectral engine that splits the sound into partials and rebuilds it, with 15 processes such as freeze, smoothing, time shuffle and dispersion.
In WAVE mode each partial is replayed by a wavetable, either one of 21 waveforms or any sample measured over 128 harmonics. After that come a polyphonic scale-snapping AUTOTUNE, a 16-comb resonator, a spectral delay, two reverbs, a filter, tape-style DIRT and an output stage. A looper, a 16-pad slicer, chords, an arpeggiator and three drawn modulators make it a performance instrument as well.
For a broader multi-engine synth that also runs in Pro Tools, look at Arturia Pigments. For precise, per-partial editing of one sample, AudioThing Materia is the cheaper specialist. Read our HOLODRIFT first look for the full breakdown and comparison table.
