VYBZ 2 is Thenatan Audio's lofi and character multi-effect. Seven processors sit side by side in one window: Texture for noise beds (or your own sample), III Verb with three reverbs and 25 impulse responses, a tempo-synced stereo Echo, Damage with six drive circuits and a bitcrusher, Time Machine for era aging from 1930 to now, Motion for width and pumping, and a two-band EQ. Envolution then plays the result through one of 12 devices, from a phone speaker to a boombox.
It excels at getting a finished lofi sound from one insert. The chain is pre-ordered and level-matched, presets are checked against bypass so they do not simply sound louder, and the dice randomiser builds variations while locked effects stay put.
The trade-offs: there is no AAX version, and seven stages are more than you need for one subtle colour. RC-20 Retro Color remains the faster one-slider tool and runs in Pro Tools, while Thenatan DIAL focuses on radio effects. VYBZ 2 is $10 at Plugin Boutique until 19 November. Our VYBZ 2 first look has the full specs and comparison.
