sonible smart:chain is an intelligent channel strip released in August 2026. It runs a single analysis of a track and uses it to generate optimized starting points across a full chain of processors: EQ, compression, de-harshing, gating, input riding, saturation and leveling. Because the modules share that one understanding of the signal, they cooperate instead of working blind.
Its defining feature is what happens between tracks. Multiple smart:chain instances communicate across your session, so each track is shaped in the context of the whole mix. Intelligent depth staging places elements in Front, Middle and Back layers within Groups, and project-wide Auto Leveling analyzes the learned tracks to build a genre-aware rough balance you can still adjust.
The closest rival is Neutron 5, which also analyzes tracks and balances a session. smart:chain differs by making its modules cooperate from one analysis and by letting instances reason about the mix together. See the full smart:chain review for the scored breakdown, and compare it with the rest of the smart: series.
