The Dubspot verdict

The Dubspot verdict

Best for Sound designers and beatmakers who want roboty voices, chatter and glitches that react to actual words, plus a generative text-to-melody instrument.

Pros

  • Turns typed text into rhythm, melody and roboty vocals with no audio input or mic
  • Six robot voices read, spell, babble or sing one syllable per note
  • LOCK, HOLD, CHORD and a mod-wheel text scramble keep a typed line musical and generative
  • 161 text-loaded presets, with KEEP TEXT to run your own words through any patch

Cons

  • Voices are robotic by design, so it is not a believable natural-vocal tool
  • No standalone version and no free trial listed; audio demos only
  • An experimental instrument rather than an everyday workhorse

Overview

TELEPRINTER is 23audio's text-driven instrument, released in October 2026. You type a line of text, then play notes, and the plugin reads the text one character per note in time with your DAW. Capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers, symbols and spaces each map to a different sound, so a word becomes a rhythm and a melody. Six robot voices can read, spell, babble or sing your words, and the mod wheel scrambles the character order on the fly for a generative take on a fixed phrase.

It covers both sound design (computer chatter, alarms, glitches, game-style blips) and music (arps, leads, basses, plucks and keys), with instrument voices spanning glass, pluck, harp, felt piano, music box, hum and two distorted basses. It ships with 161 text-loaded presets, and KEEP TEXT lets you run your own words through any patch.

Intro price is $44.99 (from $54.99), with £39.99 and €44.99 launch pricing in those regions, sold directly by 23audio in VST3, AU and AAX. The nearest reference points are iZotope VocalSynth 2 for robot and vocoder textures from a real vocal, and the same developer's V-23 Voice Processor for spoken-word mixing. FAQ

How much does TELEPRINTER cost?

TELEPRINTER launched at a $44.99 intro price, rising to $54.99 after the offer, with £39.99 and €44.99 launch pricing in those regions. The intro offer ends 6 November 2026, sold directly by 23audio.

What does TELEPRINTER actually do?

You type a line of text, then play notes, and it reads the text one character per note in time with your DAW. Letters, numbers, symbols and spaces each trigger a different sound, and six robot voices can read, spell, babble or sing your words.

Is TELEPRINTER a vocal synth like VocalSynth 2?

No. VocalSynth 2 transforms an incoming vocal, while TELEPRINTER generates roboty voices and instrument sounds from typed text with no audio input. They overlap on robot-voice output but start from opposite ends.

What formats does TELEPRINTER support?

VST3 on Mac and Windows, AU on Mac only, and AAX for Pro Tools on both platforms. There is no standalone version, and one licence covers all formats on up to three of your own computers.
