Field notes

Aperçu

Rhyzor16 is Force56 Audio's sample-based drum instrument built from the Alesis HR-16 and HR-16B ROMs. Both complete sound sets live in one plugin: 49 sounds from the HR-16 and 47 from the HR-16B. Each of the 16 pads has independent volume, pan, and the original-style 32-step tuning range.

It excels when you already sequence in the DAW and just want those late-80s digital kits under MIDI pads. Factory presets, user saving and offline playback keep the workflow small, and the serial-key license covers three computers with no dongle. The 2-day demo is fully functional.

Scope is the limitation. There's no sequencer, no MIDI output and no analog-style voice synthesis, so you pick a ROM sound, tune it, and record. Force56's Pulse16 is the SR-16 sibling at the same $39 if you want that later Alesis machine instead.

Compared with Drumazon 2, Rhyzor16 plays HR-16 samples instead of synthesizing 909 voices. Battery 4 is the deeper cell sampler if you want to build kits from scratch. Addictive Drums 2 is the acoustic-kit alternative. Read the full Rhyzor16 review.
