Das Dubspot-Urteil

A free, CPU-accurate emulation of the 1985 Oberheim Matrix-6R, running the real ROM and importing hardware SysEx patches. Faithful and promising, but still an early 0.5.5 prototype with filters the developer is refining.

Am besten für Oberheim fans and vintage-synth enthusiasts who want authentic Matrix-6R behavior for free and enjoy loading real hardware patch banks.

Pros

  • Free emulation of the Oberheim Matrix-6R
  • CPU-level modeling runs ROM v2.15 for authentic behavior
  • Imports real Matrix-6R SysEx patch files
  • Modern resizable editor over the hardware's menu system
  • VST2/VST3/CLAP/AAX on Windows, plus AU on macOS

Cons

  • Early 0.5.5 prototype, not a finished instrument
  • Developer notes the filters still need work
  • Some import features such as tape transfer may not work yet

Field notes

Überblick

Full Bucket Matriq-Six is a free plugin emulation of the Oberheim Matrix-6R, the 1985 rackmount analog polysynth. Rather than approximating the sound, it models the original 6809 processor and runs ROM v2.15 by Bob Grieb, so it reproduces the real instrument's behavior and loads genuine Matrix-6R SysEx patches.

What you are actually getting

The Matrix-6R was Oberheim's affordable route into the Matrix modulation sound: six voices, two DCOs each, a Curtis analog filter and a flexible software modulation system, all buried behind a menu-driven panel. Matriq-Six recreates that voice at the CPU level and wraps it in a modern, resizable editor, which makes the hardware's famously awkward programming far easier.

The honest limitation

This is an early prototype, version 0.5.5. The developer states plainly that the filters still need work and that some import features may not function yet. It is a purist's work in progress, not a polished studio instrument. For a finished, supported Oberheim-style plugin, a maintained commercial emulation remains the safer pick.

Verdict

Matriq-Six gives Oberheim fans an authentic, free Matrix-6R with real SysEx compatibility and a modern interface over the hardware's menus. Read the full Matriq-Six first look for the specifications and how it compares to paid Oberheim emulations.
