Mexicans with Guns @ Dubspot: Live Streaming Ableton Workshop! Friday, 6/10 5:30 EDT | Dubspot Blog

Friday, June 10, 2011 5:30-7:00pm EDT – Experimental music producer and laptop musician Ernest Gonzales, better known as Mexicans With Guns will stop by Dubspot NYC for an Ableton Live workshop which will focus on his production process, developing musical concepts and ideas, and how he put together his debut album Ceremony, live performance and stage presence. Ernest will also collaborate with Dubspot students, listen to their original productions and give feedback.

Mexicans with Guns recently unleashed his brilliant debut album Ceremony on Innovative Leisure / Friends of Friends (FoF) with guest appearances from Jahcoozi front-woman, singer-songwriter Sasha Perera, time-travelling multi-instrumentalist-producer and vocalist Chico Mann, and veteran Southern rapper Bun B, mid-west gangsta rapper Freddie Gibbs, west coast battle rapper Nocando, among others! You can read more about the album below, listen to some tracks and get tour info!

The workshop is free to attend but space is limited. RSVP here: Facebook event.

For those of you that can’t attend in person, tune in right here at 5:30pm EDT to stream the workshop on our site.

Those familiar with the masked man’s previous efforts won’t be surprised by his gritty, sleep-with-one-eye-open basslines and atmospheric swelter, but they may find themselves entranced as they diffuse over the space of 14 original tracks. Gonzales crafted the distinct sound of Mexicans With Guns as an outlet for exploring traditional Hispanic folk music as an electronic artist in the present; on Ceremony he effortlessly transposes the spiritual tradition of the past onto the rattling dance halls of the present.
