NI’s BATTERY 3 Tutorial: Sound Design + Multi-Channel Routing

YouTube Preview Image

In this new tutorial, Dubspot instructor and Sound Design & Synthesis expert Evan Sutton shows you how to split and route the individual elements of a drum pattern from Native Instruments’ BATTERY 3 into separate outputs in your sequencer.  BATTERY 3 is Native Instruments’ acclaimed drum sampler which contains an extensive library of drum sounds and percussive instruments. It allows you to manipulate and shape your drums to fit your style. Sutton starts by explaining how to utilize the various new features and navigate the parameters in the latest version of BATTERY, from setting a default kit which allows you to create template kits. He also explains how to use the new saturator algorithm which allows you to further sculpt drum sounds for warmth, impact, and character. At the end of the tutorial you should have a good grasp of how to create multiple outputs from one instance of BATTERY 3 in Ableton Live so that your drums (kicks, snares, hi-hats, etc.) can be bussed to separate channels in your sequencer.

Native Instruments today announced new versions of its studio-standard software bundle – KOMPLETE. We’ll have more into, exclusive video tutorials, and more soon! Stay tuned.

In 2011, KOMPLETE makes a dramatic breakthrough. The world’s leading pro studio bundle of instruments and effects now comes in two sizes: KOMPLETE 8 — the quintessential production package loaded with even more content at the same great price, and KOMPLETE 8 ULTIMATE — the last word in NI excellence, with the whole range of KOMPLETE Instruments and Effects on one dedicated hard drive*. What’s more, the new KOMPLETE generation offers unparalleled integration with the upcoming 1.7 version of MASCHINE. Whichever version you choose, you’ll get the best sounds and effects at a tremendous value.

New and improved features in BATTERY 3.2.2 update:

  • Additional Saturator algorithm optimized for drum sounds
  • New “Default Kit” option
  • New zero-latency convolution engine with optimized performance
  • Additional import formats (Akai MPC 5000, Alesis Fusion, Drumagog, Korg Triton, Roland Fantom, Yamaha Motif)
  • Numerical parameter value input via keyboard
  • VST plugin operation under Mac OS X 64bit
  • Rex import under Mac OS X 64bit
