Dubspot ‘Wireless’ Interview: Starkey (Seclusiasis / Slit Jockey – Philly) Talks Music Production, ‘Street Bass’ +

In this episode of our Wireless interview series, Philadelphia-based electronic music producer and DJ Starkey a.k.a. Paul J. Geissinger sits down with Dubspot instructor Raz Mesinai for an interview and a brief music production demo using Apple’s Logic Pro and reFX’s Vanguard.

In the interview Starkey talks to Raz about his early influences living in London in 2001 and listening to UK garage and grime pioneers So Solid Crew, and connecting with fellow Philadelphia DJ / producer Dev79 to form Seclusiasis and Slit Jockey Records, known for their “street bass” sound (an amalgam of bass music styles with an emphasis on the use of vocal samples). He also talks about using electronic experimentation and other compositional techniques in his creative process, getting into boutique sample libraries, and building Reaktor patches.

Starkey’s latest single “DPMO” b/w “Poison” is out now on Slit Jockey / Seclusiasis.
