Logic Pro X Tutorial! New Features – Using Track Stacks for Big Layered Synths w/ Shadetek

In this Logic Pro X video tutorial, Dubspot course designer Matt Shadetek demonstrates how to create a big, layered synth sound using Logic’s brand new Track Stacks function.

Many people make the mistake of trying to get every sound out of a single instance of a single synthesizer. As you start to dig deeper into sound design and mixing, however, you’ll find that having multiple layers in a sound opens up some great creative options to get a big sound. This is a great opportunity to try out Logic Pro X’s new Track Stacks functionality with software instruments. Track Stacks can work as busses, or like folder tracks. In folder mode, stacks give you more control over the way tracks are displayed, and enable you to mute and solo the tracks as a grup. In summing mode, the tracks are routed together in a bus, allowing you to place effects on them and process the sounds together. I’ve used this technique to add a single EQ to all three of my sound layers, and to create some automation. Stacking the synths this way will also allow us to trigger the three instruments simultaneously from a single MIDI controller. - Matt Shadetek
