Nickodemus (TOTH, Wonderwheel) @ Dubspot: Learns Traktor / Maschine + Talks DJing, Advice

NYC staple Nickodemus (a.k.a. Nico Simone) has built a steady, loyal following in his hometown of New York as much as he has the world abroad. Known for his genre-defying approach to production and DJing, Nickodemus’ work is the result of an insatiable, globetrotting record collection, and an enthusiasm for uniting an equally wide array of people to dance to it.

A resident of New York’s premier club Cielo, and the founder of multi-genre outdoor event Turntables on the Hudson, Nickodemus’ impact on New York DJ and club culture is undeniable, and ultimately the reflection of a DJ’s unique potential to develop strong community. In addition to the breadth of his remix work for folks like Bebel Gilberto, Sultan Khan, and Thievery Corporation, Nickedemus runs his own Wonderwheel Recordings imprint.

In this Dubspot-produced video interview, Nickodemus goes in for a long, engaging interview about his evolution as a DJ and producer, going from belt-driven Gemini turntables and the ASR-10, to hanging with Dubspot instructors DJ Shiftee and Heinrich Zwahlen to learn Native Instrument’s Traktor and Maschine. Nickodemus also chats about his label Wonderwheel, and the surprise recipes and tickets you’ll find in special versions of the imprint’s releases. Below check Nickodemus’ remix of Jeremy Sole’s from Wonderwheel’s latest compilation, Turntables on the Hudson Volume 8: Reflecting Cielo.
