NAMM 2010 :: Akai’s new APC-20

apc20Akai unveiled the APC-40’s baby brother, the APC-20, at NAMM this week, adding to the growing selection of Ableton specific controllers now on the market.

Half of the APC-20 is a mirror image of its sibling, what it doesnt have, as can easily be seen, are the controls for pans, sends, and macro in Ableton, also the crossfader and shortcuts.

The 20 does look like it has some additional control options though.  Buttons for Volume, Pan, Send ABC, and User 1,2,3 are visible, accessible through pages in the device.  You can also link up to 6 APC-20s together at once.

Further thought… People have to be wondering how a controller like this will work when run through The Bridge, Ableton and Serato’s new platform that integrates the two programs?  First reaction, it would seem a great match.  Superior functionality than the Launchpad given the faders.  More information on The Bridge can be found in another one of our blog entries.
