Music Tech News Roundup: Dave Smith, Critter and Guitari, Sequential Circuits, Roland, Eventide +

2015 is turning out to be quite the year for synthesizers. In our third music tech news roundup of the month we find new synths from Critter & Guitari and Dave Smith, sound examples from Roland’s new Boutique series of synths, a new video from Arpeggio, and  a package of Sonic Faction instruments for Kontakt users.

Prophet-6 Desktop | 6-Voice Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer

The Prophet-6 desktop module is every bit as powerful and easy to use as its counterpart, the Prophet-6 Keyboard. The module has all of the same controls as the keyboard version and provides the same immediacy and ease of use — with absolutely no menu diving. As with the Prophet-6 Keyboard, all parameters are at your fingertips, with full-sized knobs and switches and a comfortable, intuitive layout.

How does it sound? Awesome — just like the keyboard, because on the inside, it’s exactly the same. The same analog signal path with discrete VCOs and VCFs. The same high-quality digital effects. The same classic sound that has been earning raves from customers and reviewers alike. We’ve also added a poly chain feature so that any two Prophet-6s can be paired for twelve-voice polyphony!

Critter & Guitari Organelle | Open-Source Music Box

organelle2As you may know, Critter & Guitari are among our favorite musical instrument creators. So when we heard they are making an open source synthesizer that is based on a Linux system we got very excited. No release date as of yet but we’ve seen “late 2015″ mentioned on other sites.

Press releases: The Organelle makes it easy to explore new sounds and experiment with new ways of making music. It combines playful and intuitive controls with a powerful and flexible sound engine. The result is an instrument that is limitless in musical possibility and a joy to play.

At the heart of the Organelle’s sound engine is a robust computer that runs patches. A patch allows the instrument to take on different forms. Onboard hardware for sound input and output and mappable knobs, keys and buttons enable patches to synthesize, sample, effect, and anything in between!

The Organelle ships with a set of common default patches, and new patches may be loaded from a USB drive. Simply select patches from a continually-growing list, transfer them to a USB drive, reinsert it in the Organelle, and play!

Eventide Anthology X | Effects Plug‑In Bundle

anthology

“Eventide’s effects over the past four decades have had an enormous reputation – the marketing folks aren’t exaggerating with words like “mainstays” and “classics.” Now, imagine getting basically everything – past, present, and some new stuff – in a bundle of 17 plug-ins for an intro price of US$699. (That price drops to as little as $399 or $199 if you own some Eventide software.)” – Create Digital Music’s Peter Kirn

Dubspot Maschine Program

The future of production is here. Native Instruments’ Maschine redefines the intersection of hardware and software, performance and production. With Dubspot’s Maschine program for producers and performers, you’ll go from shaking hands with this cutting-edge music platform to making full tracks and performing your music live.

What’s Included

  • Maschine Level 1: Production Essentials
  • Maschine Level 2: Sampling, Recording, and Effects
  • Maschine Level 3: Advanced Techniques and DAW Integration

About This Program

At Dubspot, you’ll learn to produce and perform music with Maschine by becoming familiar with its hardware and software simultaneously. Maschine’s tactile controls map seamlessly to their software counterparts, unlocking an advanced production environment. The first level takes you step-by-step through producing an entire track, covering the essentials of sequencing, synthesis, and mixing along the way. We start making music from the beginning–even if you’re completely new to Maschine, you’ll be making your own beats and grooves within days.

You’ll learn sampling and recording techniques to add original material into your productions, use advanced automation features and cutting-edge effects for sound design, and explore Massive, a powerful synthesizer that’s included with Maschine. You’ll also discover how plug-in instruments and effects can expand your creative workflow, and how additional hardware instruments and controllers can be integrated into your setup. Finally, you will also learn how to integrate Maschine into a DAW as a plug-in effect or MIDI controller, with examples shown in Ableton Live and Logic Pro.

“Working closely with Native Instruments, Dubspot reveals the magic of Maschine. We hope you are ready to see first hand what the buzz is all about!”
