Music Tech News Roundup October Pt 2: Native Instruments, Pioneer, Soundtoys, Alexandernaut

In this music tech news roundup, we check out Native Instruments’ Komplete Kontrol 1.5 and S88 Keyboard, the Pioneer DJ XDJ-700, Soundtoys 5, the Traktor Kontrol S5, and Fugue Machine.

Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol 1.5 | Third Party Plugin Support & Weighted Keys

The update to the Komplete Kontrol Series introduces Native Kontrol Standard (NKS) and a new plugin format that allows third-party instruments to have the same deep integration we’ve seen with Komplete Instruments, including Browser and Smart Play features. The update also marks the introduction of the Komplete Kontrol S88, a fully weighted, hammer-action 88-key model. Read More at Native Instruments

Pioneer DJ XDJ-700 | Pioneer’s ultra compact $699 Media Player

Pioneer introduces a Midi compatible, compact addition to their XDJ line. The XDJ-700 retains the touchscreen, performance features, and DJ Link technology seen in larger models, but is housed in a slimmer unit with a smaller, unlit jog wheel. It also features USB HID control of Rekordbox and an included stand props the unit up to standard mixer height. Read More at Pioneer

Soundtoys 5 | Effect Racks and Disappearing Dongles

Soundtoys 5

In addition to new plugins like Primal Tap and Little Alter Boy, Soundtoys 5 welcomes the Effect Rack, an interface to build your own custom effect chains to save and recall. Once you’ve created the perfect combination of effects, the Rack’s global controls let you treat the whole rack as a single plug-in. Other improvements include dongle-free usage (!), and advanced effect modulation options. Read More at Soundtoys

Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol S5 | 4 Channels, STEMS Support, and Compact Kontrol

The Traktor S5 is the latest all-in-one STEMS compatible controller from Native Instruments. Borrowing from the S8, the four channel mixer includes two full-color deck displays, touch strips, and audio inputs. The smaller footprint was achieved by removing the STEMS/Remix Deck faders and filters found in the S8 model. DJs still have control over the various aspects of STEMS and Remix Decks by holding one of the performance pads and turning the loop or browse encoders. Kontrol X1 MK 2 owners should find the workflow especially familiar. The Kontrol S5 is available now for $799. Read More at Native Instruments

Fugue Machine | 1 Sequencer, 4 Playheads

Developed by Alexandernaut, the Fugue Machine is an iOS sequencer with the unique ability to use multiple playheads at once in a sequence. Each playhead has different play modes, and can be individually transposed, reversed, or even played at a different speed. The results can be poly-rhythmic, evolving, or experimental based on how you sequence your notes. Combined with an app like StudioMux, or an interface like the iConnectMidi, you can send this MIDI to Ableton or Logic to sequence your instruments. Read More at alexandernaut.com

Dubspot Maschine Program

The future of production is here. Native Instruments’ Maschine redefines the intersection of hardware and software, performance and production. With Dubspot’s Maschine program for producers and performers, you’ll go from shaking hands with this cutting-edge music platform to making full tracks and performing your music live.

What’s Included

  • Maschine Level 1: Production Essentials
  • Maschine Level 2: Sampling, Recording, and Effects
  • Maschine Level 3: Advanced Techniques and DAW Integration

About This Program

At Dubspot, you’ll learn to produce and perform music with Maschine by becoming familiar with its hardware and software simultaneously. Maschine’s tactile controls map seamlessly to their software counterparts, unlocking an advanced production environment. The first level takes you step-by-step through producing an entire track, covering the essentials of sequencing, synthesis, and mixing along the way. We start making music from the beginning–even if you’re completely new to Maschine, you’ll be making your own beats and grooves within days.

You’ll learn sampling and recording techniques to add original material into your productions, use advanced automation features and cutting-edge effects for sound design, and explore Massive, a powerful synthesizer that’s included with Maschine. You’ll also discover how plug-in instruments and effects can expand your creative workflow, and how additional hardware instruments and controllers can be integrated into your setup. Finally, you will also learn how to integrate Maschine into a DAW as a plug-in effect or MIDI controller, with examples shown in Ableton Live and Logic Pro.

“Working closely with Native Instruments, Dubspot reveals the magic of Maschine. We hope you are ready to see first hand what the buzz is all about!”
