Mala / Digital Mystikz in America :: Dub War / NYC (6/18) Return II Space Launch Party

This Friday night, Club Love will be pulsing with the beats and bass of one of Dubstep’s pioneering producers Mala, thanks to the good folks at Dub War -  Dave Q, Joe Nice, and co. are celebrating the 5th anniversary of NYC’s premier dubstep night and also hosting the NYC album launch party for Return II Space – the forthcoming triple-pack vinyl release from Digital Mystikz, the legendary dubstep outfit he founded with musical partner Coki. Mala revealed some details about the album-length release back in March.

Anticipation for Friday night has been growing really since the last time Mala played François K.’s Deep Space party last year, we’re not sure what to expect to hear — even though, we’re anticipating next level exclusives and newer tracks like the title cut “Return II Space,” “Livin’ Different” and utterly stunning “Unexpected” next to classics and revered jams like “Ancient Memories,” “Bury Da Bwoy,” and “Anti War Dub.” A distinctive feature in Mala’s mixes, weather for his live DJ sets or radio is gracefully dropping exclusive music and effortless combining/uniting it with his well-known, trusted bangers. As if Mala – Digital Mystikz aren’t enough, there will be some very special guests  in attendance, including DMZ affiliate and much-loved dubstep emcee Sgt. Pokes will be be on the mic to chat up the crowd and nice up the place. Whether you’re an avid supporter or just plain curious, we highly recommend you head over to Love on Friday. Doors open at 10:00 p.m. See you there!

More US dates for Mala:
Thursday, June 17th at Smart Bar w/ Trolly Snatcha and Quadratic
Saturday, June 19th at Gritsy in Houston w/ Sines, Saraj K, Pegman, and Upgreyed.

Check out this radio interview Gilles Peterson did with Mala – casual talk punctuated by super-exclusives, dubplates and sounds including “Education”, “Livin’ Different”, and from Augustus Pablo and Burning Speak to Steve Reich and Jill Scott, concluding with Mizz Beats’ incredible “My World” -

In an interview with Dubspot from earlier this year, internationally renowned DJ, broadcaster, and label owner/record producer Gilles Peterson talked about the massive shift in sound system culture and dance music culture in London. The UK capital seems to be going through a permanent “renaissance,” with a series of transitory points (drum and bass, jungle, 2-step, garage, grime, dubstep, funky, bassline, etc.) Peterson explains how in a city with “a whole million types of hybrids and versions of house music… dubstep is the most important movement since drum and bass (died 15 years ago?)… with a whole heap of fantastic musicians and producers, young, new energy, well-organized, Mala -”

Watch out for the Gilles Peterson Dubspot interview in which he also talked about topics ranging from his early days as a 16 year old pirate radio DJ, having the drive and motivation running a record label called Brownswood which released the double-CD album Havana Cultura: New Cuba Sound late last year, the challenge/process of making an album in five days with live musicians in Havana, and collaborating with Pernod Ricard, maker of Havana Club rum.
