Logic Pro Video Tutorial: Creative Quantization Using the EXS24 Sampler w/ Shadetek

Dubspot instructor and course designer Matt Shadetek demonstrates Logic Pro 9‘s ‘Convert to new Sample Track’ function with the EXS24 sampler. He also shares tips and tricks for chopping and manipulating samples using one of his current remix projects.

In this video we’ll look at one of my favorite features added to Logic in version 9: the ‘Convert to new Sampler Track’ function. This feature allows you to quickly convert audio into a playable instrument in Logic’s EXS24 sampler. With this method, you can reconfigure the rhythm of a part much more easily than either slicing it up or using flex time.
In this example, I use a remix I did of the Colombian artist Batata. I wanted to create a rhythm which was inspired by the 3bal Guarachero style emanating from Monterrey, Mexico. To do this, I chopped up the parts and re-quantized them into a triplet based 6/8 rhythm. I used this technique on the percussion, guitar, and accordion tracks to give the song a different, modern Latin feeling. – Matt Shadetek
