Free DJ workshops for kids @ the 2009 Sound Liberation Festival

DubSpot’s friends at the Sound Liberation Front, a Brooklyn based non-profit dedicated to encouraging community awareness and positive social change through music, are presenting the Sound Liberation Festival, this Saturday August 15th @ Littlefield in Brooklyn. SLF prides themselves on a deep commitment to honoring music’s integrity and history, and the DubSpot crew saw the perfect opportunity to work with an organization whose mission and dedication are tightly aligned with our own.

The festival will have two main components. First, during the day time from 2-7pm, the Sound Liberation Family Jam, which will include hands-on activities, art and music for the whole family. From 3-6pm DubSpot will provide free DJ workshops for kids to give a taste of Djing by introducing basic mixing and scratching techniques. On hand will be DJ Shiftee, DubSpot’s resident turntablist extraordinaire, who was recently crowned 2009 USA DMC Champion.

For the family jam, all kids are admitted free and adults are simply asked for donations.

At night, the Sound Liberation Party will kick off from 7pm to 2am. This 21+ show will include performances by Brand Nubian, in addition to Cosmo Baker, Ian Friday, Kenny Parker, Chico Mann, Ticklah, and Music Nerd All-Stars, plus live art from Sheldon Walker and video installations by The Institute for Applied Metamorphosis. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door. Come join the SLF and the DubSpot crew for a wonderful day of art, education, awareness and great music!
