5 DJ Shakey (Warper NYC) @ Dubspot w/ VoltAxe Controller + Ableton

Musician, DJ, and controllerist Julie Covello (better known as DJ Shakey of NYC’s Warper Party) visits Dubspot to discuss her innovative performance using Ableton Live and her custom VoltAxe controller. The VoltAxe is comprised of Novation Launchpad, two USB MIDI controlers from Korg NanoSeries2, Kensington Expert Pro Turbo Trackball Mouse, custom eyepiece, and foam board and custom cabling power.

Dubspot had the pleasure of hosting Glaswegian vocal stylist Soom T for a live streaming workshop at Dubspot NYC. The singer offered insights into her live setup, the effects she works with, and how she makes a track come alive on stage, and her techniques and philosophies for creating music.

8 Distance (Chestplate, UK) Dubspot Interview – Production, DJing, ‘Dubstep’ +

On the New York stop of his recent US tour, Distance visited Dubspot and sat down for a quick interview that ranges from his early influences (including everything from Salt-N-Pepa to Fear Factory), getting into UK garage and embracing electronic dance music in university, his studio and music production setup (incorporating Steinberg Cubase, Native Instruments Komplete, Genelec studio monitors, hardware synthesizers, software synths and plug-ins), and meeting early dubstep artists like Mala, Skream, Benga, Kode9, and DJ Hatcha at the influential London club night FWD.
