Dubspot Podcast #11: James Patrick – Minimal Techno + Ableton Talk

Dubspot Podcast series returns after a quick break with James Patrick (Hungelmann) who stopped by Dubspot basement on a humid late afternoon in September to deliver an incredible improvised minimal techno DJ set on Ableton Live! James Patrick, otherwise known as JP Hungelmann is an artist/composer, DJ/producer, and teacher/promoter from Minneapolis. He has been “longtime crusader” for next level, boundary-pushing electronic music and you can definitely tell from listening to his, or witnessing him performing, subtly building up epic, hypnotic grooves with layers of beats and sounds and collapsing them. The set was performed on Akai APC40 along with just a couple of controllers including the TouchOSC application for iPhone, and it is comprised of original beats and musical pieces that are blurred by audio effects and noises. At the end of the mix, JP breaks down his set, and talks about creative processes, technology and Live performance possibilities! Stay tuned for a video of JP performing live and demystifying his performance set up.

JP is AWESOME. Good work on getting him on! I was a student and am now a friend of JP and the man knows his stuff.
