This week, Dubspot Podcast features Vanese Smith, aka Pursuit Grooves, a Brooklyn based artist and producer, who recently released a 7-track EP titled Fox Trot Mannerisms on the UK dubstep imprint Tectonic. The EP has been has been on heavy rotation here in the Dubspot basement all summer long! Vanese delivered a dynamic and wonderful performance on the Boss SP-505, which she has been producing and performing with for nearly a decade. Her set included exclusive beats, live improvised pieces, and a couple of tracks from her EP. She talks with producer and Dubspot instructor Matt Shadetek about her creative process, developing an almost second-nature familiarity with her tools – not using them as a crutch, but as tools to express ideas and sounds. She also talks about the upcoming, expanded Japanese version of Fox Trot Mannerisms coming out in October. And please stay tuned for a video of Pursuit Grooves performing live at Dubspot!
