Dubspot @ SXSW 2014 in Austin, TX

Over the past three decades, SXSW (South by Southwest) has been building momentum as one of the most prominent art and technology events in the world. It’s a place where artists break new music, companies introduce new technology, and new alliances are formed for 10 days each year in Austin, Texas.

Dubspot has been attending SXSW annually to present our unique brand of education, highlight our talented staff, and to get a taste of what’s new in technology, film and sound for the coming year. For SXSW 2014 we have assembled a team of educators, creators, and thinkers for a series of events including workshops, live performances, DJ sets, discussions, and more.

DJ Shiftee – Shift Happens @ SXSW

SHIFTEE_TOUR POSTER_sxDJ Shiftee’s Shift Happens tour continues at SXSW with performances just about every night. “I’m so hyped for this tour!” says Shiftee. “It will be my first time: officially incorporating visuals into my set, driving across the whole country, touring for so long, and also playing a bunch of the cities on the routing.  The clinics will delve into the different technological tools in my arsenal and how I conceptualize & approach DJ sets & performance. Life coaching and sandwich consultation also available.”

Calling Shiftee an overachiever is an understatement. He’s Dubspot’s DJ curriculum director, a Turntablism instructor at Dubspot, a Harvard math grad, a 2-time DMC world champion, a Beatport top 10 producer, a label owner and an international DJ. He’s also always on the forefront of DJ technology, a Native Instruments endorsed artist and a common figure in many of their product videos. He’s the hardest working DJ out there.

As a producer he has worked with various international labels, such as Man Recordings (Berlin), Palenque (Colombia), and Soundway Records (UK). Astrolith + SicksentZ  @ Avenue on Congress

Brooklyn born producer and DJ SicksentZ and Dubspot Sound Design instructor / bass and funk music composer Evan Sutton (aka Astrolith) will be performing at Avenue on Congress, happening at 408 Congress Avenue on Friday March 14th

Brooklyn born producer and DJ SicksentZ has found a lot of recent success as the gap between hiphop and electronic music continues to fade. Though his sound is rooted in low-fi, spacey rap beats, he has always drawn influence from the electronic music scene. With production that draws from both Rinse FM and Rawkus, he’s been tapped for work with Danny Brown, G-Side, Flatbush Zombies and longtime friends Mr. MFN eXquire and Lakutis. As a live producer and remixer, he’s been asked to tour with various hiphop heavyweights, including El-P and Killer Mike during their infamous Into the Wild Tour in 2012, and Run the Jewels tour n 2013. On stage, SentZ uses Ableton Push and stems from his in-studio works to create improvised live performances, often assisted by an MC. His live remixes, dubbed “hacks” see him reworking floor proven songs, and infusing them with a bit more groove and grit.

Evan Sutton has been making experimental music for close to a decade. Making the journey to the east coast from Southern California in 2005, he cut his teeth composing electronic music in an academic setting. Today, his heart is set on the dancefloor. Combining a variety of influences, including hip hop, electro, techno, and funk, he wants to get you busy.
