Veterans Memorial Benefit ‘Beats for a Bench’ May 21st w/ Nalepa, Thavius Beck, DJ Nobody

Saturday, May 21st (4pm -11pm) at the Expo Center in Long Beach, California :: Dubspot, Alpha Pup Records and Low End Theory are proud to support Beats For A Bench, a Memorial Day fundraiser for Israel Garcia, an army sergeant who died in battle in Wanat, Afghanistan on July 13, 2008. Friends and family of Israel Garcia come together to acknowledge his sacrifice and accomplishments by honoring him with a memorial bench, for which they need to raise $5000 – additional funds raised will benefit the Long Beach City College Veterans Group to build an on-campus memorial as well as US Vets for facilitating “successful transition of military veterans and their families through the provision of housing, counseling, career development and comprehensive support.”

Beats For A Bench kicks off with a screening of Oscar nominated documentary Restrepo, created by Sebastian Junger and the late Tim Hetherington. An art show and a silent auction featuring works from local artists Dana Troy and Peter Evans. The evening will also feature music from Dubspot’s LA instructors, including electronic musician, producer/MC Thavius Beck and Chapman University professor and producer Steve Nalepa will perform alongside Low End Theory resident DJ Nobody.
