Dubspot Ableton Live Video Tutorial: ProjectSAM Orchestral Ensemble Essentials

POP QUIZ! What do you call the white folder where all of your Ableton Live samples, instruments, etc. are located? Answer: The Live Library. Now, what do you call the section of Ableton’s website where you can purchase more instruments made by Ableton as well as Partner Instruments made by other companies to add to your Live Library? Answer: The Library. One of the newest Partner Instruments to arrive in the Library is Orchestral Essenble Essentials (O.E.E.) made by ProjectSAM. The instrument comes as 31 preset Instrument Racks of professionally multisampled brass, woodwind and string sounds. If you’re looking for that old school (way old school) orchestra sound, or looking to take those classic sounds in a modern direction, don’t sleep on Orchestral Ensemble Essentials. In this video, we’ll go through the following:

1) The Sections of the Orchestra: Get familiar with the different sections of the orchestra that are included in Orchestral Ensemble Essentials, namely Brass, Woodwind and Strings. Learn how to achieve maximum realness with automating the “articulation” macro.

2) That MIDI Sound: Ever hear that machine gun effect you get when programming the same sound the exact same way, over and over? Yeah, that sound.

3) Velocity Curves and Volume Envelopes: There are ways to break away from that MIDI sound with clever uses of velocity curves and volume envelopes.

4) What is Orchestration?: If you’re new to making music with orchestral instruments, then here’s a way to start getting used to the richness of their many timbres.

5) Special Effects & Extra Tools: O.E.E. comes with some exciting presets that are made for creating special effects and articulation changes that MIDI orchestrators have been trying to do for years.

So whether your a film composer looking to set the right mood with a lush string ensemble, or a hip hop producer in need of some epic brass stabs, the Orchestral Ensemble Essentials is the way to go. Now, one last question as part of your POP QUIZ: You down with O.E.E?!
