Ableton Live Tutorial – Slice to MIDI and The Quick Glitch Technique w/ Thavius Beck

In this Ableton Live 9 Tutorial, Thavius Beck shows us a technique that he calls “quick glitch.” This method involves a sampled drum break and Live’s Slice to MIDI function. Once you delete any unwanted transients, or jumps in amplitude on the wave form, you use Slice to MIDI to select “transients” as each slice. This gives you the drum break sliced into each sound, in this case, each drum hit. By adjusting the Loop Length, Loop Compress and X-fade/Snap macros, you can get some interesting glitchy sounds. Also try blending the glitched out version of your drum loop with the original sample for added texture.
