Ableton Live Tutorial: Remixing Live Instruments w/ Dan Freeman

In this Ableton Live tutorial, Dubspot Instructor and performer Dan Freeman shows you how to chop and rearrange your live instrumental performance using Drum Rack and Simpler to create something entirely new

Ableton Live Tutorial: Using Drum Rack to Sample Live Performances

In this Ableton Live tutorial, Dan Freeman shows off some of the sound editing possibilities built-in to Ableton Live Suite to rearrange your live performances. You can use these techniques for a wide variety of reasons, either to fix small errors in your playing or to chop, sample, and remix your performance entirely. Dan shows you how to use Ableton Live’s Drum Rack to sample individual notes of a bass guitar and use Simpler to adjust the start and end points of these notes. Once you have the start and end points defined, you can program a new arrangement of these notes using the pencil tool to create an entirely new melody using MIDI. Dan also goes over how to use Ableton Live’s “Slice to New MIDI Track” feature to automate the note chopping process by creating a new slice per transient, or sudden spike in volume.
